The cosmetic industry has skyrocketed due to the influence of social media and new products enter the market on a daily basis. It is important to be aware of the ingredients that are going into the makeup and beauty products that you are purchasing because some ingredients may have longterm, harmful effects on your health.
Formaldehyde is used as a preservative in most cosmetics and is commonly found in eyelash glue, nail polish, hair straightening products and hair serums. Since formaldehyde is a carcinogen, it can be traced back to leukemia, pancreatic cancer, as well as skin, eye, and throat irritation. If you are notorious for biting your freshly painted nails, you may be ingesting formaldehyde which can then cause stomach irritation and potentially lead to a form of cancer. Formaldehyde can be released from other chemicals so if you see the word or words: bronopol, DMDM hydantoin, or diazolidinyl urea, make sure to avoid the product.
